Terry was ths only boy out of 3 children (Eileen and Joan)and was brought up without a father (Daniel) who died from war wounds when they were infants.His mother was Cecila Kiley(nee Bond) During the period of the late 1920s/early 1930s times were hard for the 3 children, and for the young mother who was always very ill up until she died in 1970. Eileen died when she was 11 years of age, and Joan is still living to this time at the age of 79.(2007). When Terry left school at the age of 14(1940) with no acedemic qualifications his avenue of jobs consisted of various manual work in the building industry where there was always work.Due to the lack of parentel control family discipline was not the order of the day and he was always his own man and a bit of a rebel. In 1940 at the age of 14.7, he joined the 71st(Glam)Ack/Ack Batt, Home Guard and was located to an Anti aircraft gun position on Western Ave Cardiff( by the bridge of the River Taff), then in July 1943 at 17.3 he voluntary enlisted in the Welsh Guards(he was under age)His service took him through to the end of WW2, being demobbed, and then re-enlisting back into the Welsh Guards terminating 1n 1947.
